lost&found

lost & found is a site-specific work that was mainly completed during the spring of 2023, but is in fact the result of a prolonged engagement with the region I called home for a period of two years. during this time, I visited the selected area as regularly as I could, paying close attention to the myriad variations (sometimes subtle, sometimes quite dramatic) that the land experienced over time and carefully registering the different ways in which my perception gradually adjusted to the environment.

eventually, I felt the urge to collaborate with the wide array of materials and forces naturally available at the sites in a more active way. for that purpose, I mostly used my own bare hands, ocassionally resorting to basic tools (mainly a small ax and hand shovel) to clear some ground and break elements down into smaller components, alway within clear boundaries (no trees were felled and only already available wood was used).

as manual labor and seasonal events intersected over time, a series of structures and perceptual arrangements started emerging, in which the productive interplay between found materials and artistic intervention can hopefully be noticed by the attentive eye. although most of those have proven quite sturdy, they can certainy be expected to be subject to deterioration and might eventually disintegrate completely.

the two sites are separated by a short distance, but their characteristics couldn’t be more different (the kind of vegetation they present, the amount of sunlight they receive, etc.) as a result, visiting them offers markedly contrasting experiences. documentation includes photographs taken at different times and also field recordings that encompass not only natural sound (birds, wind, water, etc.), but also various activities performed at the sites, in which work and leisure intermingle.
